Coach Butch Jones expects Dan LeFevour at 100 percent for the CMU football team's noon Saturday game against rival Western Michigan University.

The junior starting quarterback suffered a right ankle injury in the second quarter of the team's 24-14 Homecoming win against Temple University and did not return in the second half. Senior Brian Brunner finished the game.

"Dan will be fine," Jones said afterward. "He could've went back into the football game, but we felt confident in Brian. And we expect (LeFevour) 100 percent next week."

LeFevour, the Chippewas' third-year starter who was critical in their back-to-back Mid-American Conference championships in 2006-07, first aggravated his right ankle when Temple's Brian Sanford sacked him for a 6-yard loss midway through the second quarter.

He finished the drive, which ended two plays later when a backwards lateral turned into a Temple fumble recovery at CMU's 24-yard line.

Brunner took over on CMU's next possession, but LeFevour returned later in the drive to lead the Chippewas to the Owls' 3-yard line. He left the game for good after Temple's Terrance Knighton tackled him for a two-yard loss with just more than a minute remaining in the half.

While LeFevour was seen limping off the field before halftime, he took practice reps on the sideline and kept loose in the second half. He finished the game 10-for-11 for 106 yards and threw two touchdown passes.

LeFevour is 16-2 in MAC play as the Chippewas' starting quarterback and 2-0 against Western Michigan.

Dear Coach Jones,
You would not need to be worried about LeFevour's potential for injuries if you created an offense that includes the other 10 men on the field when CMU has the football! The more you continue to keep Dan as the one and only person on your offense, the less likely he will come out of a game - let alone a season - unscathed. (Continued…)
