Kalyn Johnson called her apartment a war zone.
With mud coating the formerly white kitchen tile, furniture tipped over, and ruined clothes lying in piles, it certainly looked like one.
Two weeks after Johnson and her husband moved all of their belongings into their new home, they were suddenly evacuated, having just enough time to pack the essentials of clothes and overnight necessities.

Recent LSA graduate Polina Arsentyeva will see an extra $10 in her usual paycheck from Stucchi's after a state-wide minimum wage hike takes effect tomorrow, but Arsentyeva said the few additional dollars won't matter much to her.
"I don't think it's going to make that much of a difference, but maybe I just don't know because I'm not in a situation where I need the money to survive," said Arsentyeva, who has plans to keep scooping ice cream until she starts law school at Loyola University in the fall.

Drops of rain fell intermittently on Roxann Wolfe's shoulders as she carried a few salvageable objects from her former home.
More water was one of the last things Wolfe wanted to see after floodwaters washed through her recently renovated 410 Third Ave. house last week.
"I sure do hate it," she said. "I liked my little house … I know I'm not coming back."
